Matai Bay Campground
Maitai Bay is on the Karikari peninsula near Kaitaia and is a popular holiday destination.
Each year large numbers of campers seek out this beautiful spot and enjoy a few weeks holiday. Unfortunately the camp facilities were not keeping up with the camp’s growing popularity.
The Department of Conservation (DOC) manage the Maitai Bay campground and decided last winter to upgrade the shower block. DOC was looking for a simple yet effective system to treat the grey water from the showers. They wanted a system that was:
-
Low maintenance
-
Did not require energy such as running a pump
-
Was able to cope with the large volume of water generated over the short holiday season

Autoflow grey water tanks were chosen because they met all the criteria. The Autoflow (non powered) dosing siphon system was especially attractive to DOC in a place without a power supply.
The tanks have just experienced quite a few summers at Maitai Bay and from all accounts have coped well with the influx of people and their wastewater.
